Pinpoint provides a system for managing candidate language preferences and email templates to ensure effective communication throughout the recruitment process. Below, we outline how language preferences are determined, their impact on email templates, and best practices for managing these settings.
Overview of Language Preferences in Pinpoint
Candidate language preferences in Pinpoint are automatically derived from the browser locale used during the application process. This means candidates do not manually select their preferred language; instead, the system assigns it based on the language settings of their browser at the time of application. If necessary, recruiters can update a candidate's language preference in their Application details.
A Few Extra Details
- Companies control which languages are available — a locale is only accepted if the company has that language switched on in their settings.
- The internal recruiter platform is English-only — the multi-language experience is for candidates on public careers sites and in automated emails, not for recruiters using the back-end.
Where can I enable additional languages in Pinpoint?
Languages can be detected at a platform level in Company > Profile > Details > Languages
Impact of Language Settings on Email Templates
Language preferences directly affect the functionality of email templates in Pinpoint. For example, if a candidate's preferred language is Spanish then as long as spanish traslation have been added to the template, the email will send out in spanish to the candidate.
Pinpoint does not automatically translate email templates, so if email templates have not had Spanish translations entered, then blank emails may be sent
. There are two option with this:
Add the appropriate translations to the email templates,by going to Settings > Templates (1) > Email Templates (2) > Clicking on the name of the template > clicking on "english" At the top of the email (3) then selecting the language you wish to add a translation in for.
Change the candidate's language preference back to English, by clicking into the candidates application and clicking on "edit" in the top right of their application tab
Then selecting "english" in the languages field, and click "update" to save
Best Practices for Template Translation
To avoid communication issues:
Ensure all email templates have translations for the languages commonly used by candidates.
Regularly review and update templates to include new language options as needed.
By following these practices, recruiters can maintain consistent and effective communication with candidates, regardless of their language preferences.
