Connecting an AI assistant to Pinpoint

Use the Pinpoint MCP to connect an AI assistant to your Pinpoint Account

Written by Emilia Carvell

You can connect an AI assistant - such as Claude or Microsoft Copilot - to your Pinpoint account, so it can help you with your hiring work directly. Once connected, the assistant can search your candidates and jobs, read details, and (with your approval) take actions like moving a candidate or sending an email. The assistant works as you — it can only see and do what you can already see and do in Pinpoint.

Before you start

  • Is it switched on? The feature needs to be switched on for your company first (see Step 1). If you have the Company permission you can do this yourself; otherwise ask an admin at your organisation, or your Pinpoint contact.

  • Permission to switch it on: turning the feature on needs the Company permission (the one that lets you edit your company's settings). Connecting an assistant once it's on needs no special permission — any user can connect one to their own account.

  • What the assistant can do: exactly what you can do in Pinpoint, and no more. If you don't have access to something in Pinpoint, the assistant won't either.

  • An assistant that supports connections: you'll need an AI assistant that can connect to an external tool server (for example Claude or Microsoft Copilot). You set the connection up inside that assistant's own app.

How to connect your assistant

Step 1: Turn on external AI agent access

If the feature isn't switched on yet, go to Settings → Company → Preferences, find the AI Features section, and turn on MCP / external agent access. You need the Company permission to change this — if you don't see the option, ask an admin at your organisation, or your Pinpoint contact, to switch it on.

Step 2: Find your Pinpoint connection address

Your connection address is your Pinpoint web address with /mcp added to the end — for example https://yourcompany.pinpointhq.com/mcp. Use the same web address you normally use to sign in to Pinpoint.

Step 3: Add Pinpoint to your AI assistant

In your assistant's settings, add a new connection (sometimes called a "connector," "tool server," or "MCP server") and paste in the address from Step 2. The exact wording depends on your assistant.

Step 4: Sign in to Pinpoint

Your assistant opens a Pinpoint sign-in window. Sign in exactly as you normally do.

Step 5: Review and approve the access

Pinpoint shows an approval screen headed Authorise Claude followed by your assistant's name. It lists what the assistant is asking to do, for example:

  • Read your hiring data (candidates, jobs, scorecards, messages)

  • Take actions on your behalf (move candidates, send emails, update jobs)

When you're happy, click Allow. (To cancel, click Deny.)

Step 6: Start using your assistant

That's it — your assistant is connected. You can now ask it to help with your Pinpoint work, and it will act on your behalf, within your permissions.

Tips

  • The assistant always works as you, so it's a quick way to get help without leaving your assistant — but remember it follows your existing permissions.

  • If you only want the assistant to look things up rather than change anything, simply don't ask it to take actions. The approval screen also makes clear which kind of access you're granting.

Troubleshooting

The connection or sign-in window doesn't work. The feature may not be switched on yet. If you have the Company permission, turn on MCP / external agent access under Settings → Company → Preferences → AI Features (Step 1). Otherwise ask an admin at your organisation, or your Pinpoint contact, to switch it on.

The assistant can't do something I expected. The assistant can only do what you can do in Pinpoint. If an action isn't available, it's because your Pinpoint permissions don't include it — the same as if you tried to do it yourself. Ask an admin at your organisation if you need additional access in Pinpoint.

I have to approve access again after a while. For security, the assistant's access refreshes periodically. If your assistant asks you to sign in and approve again, that's normal — just repeat Steps 4 and 5.

I want to disconnect an assistant. If you need a connected assistant's access removed, contact your Pinpoint Customer Success contact.

FAQs

Q: Can the assistant see candidates or jobs I'm not allowed to see?

A: No. It works as you, with your exact permissions.

Q: Which assistants can I connect?

A: Assistants that support connecting to an external tool server, such as Claude and Microsoft Copilot.

Q: Is there a record of what the assistant does?

A: Yes — every action the assistant takes is recorded against your account.

Q: Can I turn this on myself?

A: Yes, if you have the Company permission. Turn on MCP / external agent access under Settings → Company → Preferences → AI Features. If you don't have that permission, ask an admin at your organisation.
