How to Use Dashboard Filters in Insights Hub

Filter your entire Insights Hub dashboard at once instead of filtering each widget separately. Apply filters for location, department, job, and more to instantly update all widgets on the page with just a few clicks.

What are Dashboard Filters?

Dashboard Filters (also called Global Filters) allow you to filter an entire Insights Hub dashboard from a single filter bar at the top of the page. When you select a filter, every widget on the dashboard updates instantly to show only the data you want to see.

Key benefits:

  • Save time by filtering once instead of adjusting each widget individually

  • No need to create duplicate dashboards for different regions, departments, or teams

  • Mix and match filters on the fly during meetings or reviews

  • Your filter selections are remembered when you return to the dashboard

Example use case:
If you're a Head of Talent managing 5 regions, you can use one dashboard and simply change the Location filter to view data for each region, rather than maintaining 5 separate dashboards.

Using Dashboard Filters

Step 1: Open Your Dashboard

Navigate to any Insights Hub dashboard where the filter feature has been enabled.

You'll see a filter bar at the top of the page showing "No filters applied".

The filter bar appears at the top of every Insights Hub dashboard

Step 2: Add a Filter

Click the filter icon in the filter bar to open the filter menu.

Choose from job, location, department, and custom field filters

You'll see a list of available filters including:

  • Standard filters: Job, Location, Department, Division, Business Unit, Group, Hiring Manager, Job Recruitment Manager

  • Custom field filters: Any custom fields you've created for jobs, offers, or applications (grouped by type)

Step 3: Search and Select Values

Click on any filter type to expand it. Each filter includes:

  • Search box: Quickly find specific values when you have many options

  • Checkboxes: Select one or multiple values

Use the search box to find specific values, then select using checkboxes

For example, to filter by location:

  1. Click "Location" to expand it

  2. Use the search box if you have many locations

  3. Check the boxes for the locations you want (e.g., "London" and "Manchester")

  4. Selected values appear as filter chips in the filter bar

Step 4: View Filtered Data

All widgets on the dashboard immediately refresh to show only data matching your selected filters.

Active filters appear as chips showing "Field is Value" format

How filters combine:

  • Multiple values within the same filter type use OR logic (e.g., "London" OR "Manchester")

  • Different filter types combine with AND logic (e.g., "Location: London" AND "Department: Engineering")

  • Global filters work alongside any existing widget-level filters

Step 5: Manage Your Filters

Remove individual filters: Click the "X" on any filter chip to remove just that filter.

Clear all filters: Click the "CLEAR" button to remove all filters at once.

Remove individual filters or clear all at once

Your filter selections are automatically saved in your browser and will be remembered when you return to the dashboard.

Available Filter Types

Standard Filters

These filters are available on all dashboards:

  • Job

  • Location

  • Department

  • Division

  • Business Unit

  • Group

  • Hiring Manager

  • Job Recruitment Manager

Custom Field Filters

If you've created custom fields in Settings > Custom Fields, they'll appear in the filter menu grouped by type:

  • Job Custom Fields

  • Offer Custom Fields

  • Application Custom Fields

Custom fields only appear if they already exist in your system. You cannot create custom fields from the filter interface.

Best Practices

Using Filters Effectively

  1. Start broad, then narrow: Begin with one or two filters, then add more if needed to refine your view.

  2. Check for conflicts: If a widget shows no data after filtering, you may have filters that don't overlap (e.g., filtering for "Sales" when the widget itself is already filtered to "Engineering only").

  3. Use multiple values: Don't forget you can select multiple values within the same filter type to compare data (e.g., select 3 locations to compare their metrics side-by-side).

  4. Combine with widget filters: Dashboard filters work alongside widget-level filters. Use global filters for broad segmentation and widget filters for specific customization.

Performance Tips

  • Data typically updates within a few seconds

  • Complex dashboards with many widgets may take up to 30 seconds to fully refresh

  • If widgets don't update, try refreshing the page

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I save my filter combination as a preset or view?
Not yet. This feature is on our roadmap. For now, your filter selections are remembered in your browser between sessions, so you don't need to reapply them each time you visit the dashboard.

Why don't I see my custom fields in the filter options?
Custom fields only appear if they've been created in Settings > Custom Fields first. Also check that you're looking in the right section—custom fields are grouped by type (Job Custom Fields, Offer Custom Fields, Application Custom Fields).

Do my filters affect other users viewing the same dashboard?
No. Filters are stored in your browser only. Each user maintains their own filter selections.

What happens if I set a global filter that conflicts with a widget's own filter?
Filters combine using AND logic between different filter types. If there's no overlap between your global filter and a widget's filter, that widget will show no results. For example, if you filter globally for "Location: London" but a widget is filtered to "Location: Paris only", that widget will be empty.

Can I filter by date range using dashboard filters?
No. Date ranges must be controlled at the individual widget level, not through the global filter bar.

Can I filter by multiple locations (or departments, etc.) at once?
Yes! You can select multiple values within the same filter type. The filter will show data matching any of the selected values (OR logic).

My filters aren't saving between sessions. Why?
Filters are saved in your browser's local storage. If you're using private/incognito mode, filters won't persist. Also, clearing your browser data will remove saved filters.

Can I export the filtered view?
The filtered data cannot be exported directly from the dashboard. Use the standard export functionality available on individual widgets or reports.

Will filters work if I navigate to a different dashboard?
No. Filters only apply to the current dashboard. When you navigate to another dashboard, you'll need to apply filters again (though any previously used filters on that dashboard will be remembered).

Troubleshooting

I don't see the filter bar at all
The feature may not be enabled for your account yet. Contact your Customer Success Manager to request access.

All widgets show "No data" after filtering
Your filter combination may be too restrictive or may conflict with existing widget filters. Try removing some filters or checking individual widget settings.

Custom fields I created aren't appearing
Verify that the custom fields exist in Settings > Custom Fields and are the correct type (Job, Offer, or Application). Also ensure they contain data—empty custom fields may not appear in the filter list.
