People First Integration Plugin

A quick tour of how the People First plugin works, what you'll need to get it running, and how to sort out the handful of things that commonly go sideways.

Written by Ces Garcia

Once a candidate's hired, there's no reason anyone should be re-typing their details into a second system. The People First integration lets a Pinpoint user export a new hire straight into MHR's People First platform - person record, bank details, emergency contact, and job assignment, all in one go.

It's a one-way, push-only connection (Pinpoint → People First), which keeps things simple: nothing flows back the other way, so there's no risk of Pinpoint data getting overwritten by anything happening on the People First side.

Getting set up

Before you can use the integration, you'll need to hand over three pieces of configuration:

Access Token (required, sensitive) Generated inside People First under Settings → Inbound Integration → Personal Access Tokens. This is shown once and never again, so clients need to copy it immediately when it's generated.

Tenant Code (required) Something like pfmhr0555 — provided by MHR support, and also visible in the client's own People First URL.

Environment Code (optional) Something like c0001801 — also from MHR, and can be left blank for production environments.

If any required field is missing, the plugin shows a clear callout — "Missing API Credentials" — so it's rarely a mystery when someone hasn't finished configuring it.

How to generate your Access Token

  1. In People First, click Settings in the bottom-left nav

  2. Go to Menu → Administration

  3. Open Settings → Inbound Integration

  4. Find (or create) the Pinpoint entry in the list

  5. Name the integration, select the relevant access groups, and tick Active

  6. Click Generate Access Token

  7. Name the token, confirm the granted roles, set a valid-until date, and hit Generate

  8. Copy the token immediately using Click to Copy — it won't be shown again

What can go wrong (and how to fix it):

  1. Missing API Credentials" error: Configure Access Token, Tenant Code, and (optionally) Environment Code

  2. "Authorization has been denied" error: Access Token is incorrect or expired - regenerate token in People First admin panel

  3. Empty dropdown lists: Access Token might not have sufficient permissions, or Tenant Code/Environment Code is incorrect

  4. "Job is already occupied" error: Selected job/date combination is not vacant. Select a different job or change the start date
