What are Scorecards?

Scorecards are a great way to create a structured, standardised way of assessing a candidate, helping you be more objective and removing bias from your selection process.

Scorecards can be filled in for individual candidates, and then the total score for each candidate is calculated, to give you the objective view of your best candidates.


How do I create a scorecard?

In order to create scorecards, you will need the Company Manager role assigned to you.

Step 1

From Pinpoint's left hand menu, navigate to the Templates page under the Settings Heading, and from here, select the Scorecards page.


Step 2:

Press the Create New button.

Scorecards are built out using 3 key items.

  • Sections: Sections allow you to group scores you wish to collect around simliar topics or themes. You may want to group your scores for items around Previous Experience into their own section for example.

  • Metrics: Metrics are the individual items on which you want to score candidates. A metric is measured from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score. Metrics can be weighted, so that the score from any metric can have greater value placed on it when tallying the candidate's final score.

  • Questions: Questions allow you to place a text field in a scorecard, and these can be used to prompt interviewers to record a written response on a particular topic instead of a metric.

Step 3
A weighting can be applied to any metric in a Pinpoint scorecard, and when applied, the score given to the candidate for the particular metric is multiplied by the weighting number. For example, if a metric had a weighting of 2, the system will double the total score given for that metric when tallying the candidate's total score. We recommend not using values higher than 3, so as not to skew the overall objectivity of the scorecard for any one metric

Step 4

Your scorecard has a section for interview guidance notes, so fill these in if you need to direct your reviewers in any way.

Step 5

With the details completed, press the Update Scorecard button at the bottom of the page. The scorecard is now ready to be used with candidates, but before it can be, you'll need to define which jobs, and at which stage of hiring process the scorecard should be used.


Assigning Scorecards

  • In Pinpoint, scorecards are assigned to hiring workflow stages.

  • You can have different scorecards assigned to each stage of a hiring workflow. For example, your criteria for passing a first round interview will likely be different from your later stage interviews, so you can assign different scorecards to each workflow stage to support this.

  • You can assign multiple scorecards to any stage, so in your first round interview you may have a company-wide scorecard on key values, but also, a role-specific scorecard dealing with the skills a candidate will need to be assessed on for the role they've applied to.

How do I assign a scorecard to my hiring workflow templates?

Step 1

In the Templates section of Pinpoint again, go to the Hiring Workflow Templates page.

Step 2

Locate the workflow you want to assign your scorecards to, and open the workflow editor. From within the editor, select the hiring workflow stage you want to assign a scorecard to by pressing the Edit icon.

Step 3

With the stage selected, click on the scorecards field, and this will open the list of your scorecards. Tick any scorecards you wish to apply to this workflow stage, and then press the save button at the bottom.

How do I assign a scorecard to an existing jobs?

Step 1

From the job's overview page, select the Edit button, and then, the Edit Stages option.


Step 2

From the stages menu, select the Edit icon for the stage you wish to apply the scorecard to.

Step 3

Click on the scorecards field, and then select any scorecard you wish to add to the stage. Once you've selected the correct scorecards, press the Submit button at the bottom.


Editing a Scorecard

  • Once scorecards have been assigned to stages, they can be edited from the templates menu at any time.

  • If a scorecard template is edited, any instance of that scorecard that hasn't yet been filled in will be updated to reflect the edits. Any scorecard that had been filled in for a candidate before the edits were made, will keep the format of the original version and not take on the edits.
